HHave you ever been fearful of checking your email or even picking up the phone? Maybe you’ve been avoiding a situation, and whenever there is a reminder that it still exists, still needs to be dealt with, you shut down. Rather than tackle the problem head-on, you avoid it. Or maybe you find yourself grieving over the news, whether it be politics, the climate crisis, or the economy. When we feel powerless, insecure, and maybe even guilty, it’s hard to muster up the energy to move forward. You know things would be better if you just confronted the issue, but you’re frozen. What if instead of wallowing in despair, you could begin to feel the bubbling sensation of justified anger?

We can call on Hawaiian goddess Pele to help ignite our anger so we are compelled to act. While we may believe that anger isn’t a constructive emotion, sometimes it’s what we need to get us through a fraught situation. Anger has more energy than desperation, fear, or grief. Justified anger can act as a catalyst for change in our own lives as well as in society.

When we learn to recognize and honor our anger, it becomes a catalyst for action.
