A tale of two Colins
I lean against the building, waiting in line, watching couples on either side of me run their hands along each other. The cold bricks of the building press against me through my green dress, contrasting with the warmth of the November night. Despite the coolness of the bricks, it is comfortable enough for bare legs and sandals after the sun had set.
My courage waivers with each passing minute. Silently, I plead for the ghost tour to begin so I can blend into the crowd of happy vacationing couples and enjoy some eerie tales of New Orleans. This trip was the first we had planned as a couple. Flights booked and canceled, Airbnb reservations made and canceled, a future planned and canceled.
“You dodged a bullet.”
“I never liked him.”
“He wasn’t right for you.”
“It is for the best.”
“We were about to have an intervention…”
