I remember being little and asking my mom why all girls seemed to sing about boys on the radio. She gave me a *shrug* type of answer which I can’t honestly remember. But I do remember her response — later on in life — when I’d asked her…

“How will I know when I find the person that I’m going to marry?”

She’d said…

“I can’t tell you how. You’ll just know.”

What an infuriating answer! But, I get it now — and mom was right. Here’s how that “moment” played out for me.

I met Alex when I was turning 15 years old. I was at my first high school party, where all the kids from the various junior highs in the area were coming together for the first time. I honestly don’t remember the exact moment that I first spoke to Alex — there were a lot of new names and faces to learn all at once. But I know it must have gone well, because I do remember later that night when he looked at me from down the hall, slowly walked up to me, and kissed me.

That’s it. Nothing more happened. I don’t think I even gave him my phone number. We just made out for a couple minutes. I left later on with my friends, knowing that I’d see him at…
