Love at First Site
Well….for them
In 2006, everyone talked about Facebook, but it wasn’t for everyone back then. Literally. You needed a .edu email from a big-shot university. I didn’t have one because I went to community college. So I was still stuck on MySpace.
That summer, I transferred to Illinois State University partly because they had a great English program… mostly because I wanted to get on Facebook.
The day I got my school email, I set up my profile and started adding everyone I could find. If you went to Illinois State and we locked eyes, you were getting a friend request.
One of the first people I met on Facebook was a goddess of a woman. The most beautiful slice of heaven I had ever seen. Blonde hair, blue eyes, she looked like Cameron Diaz, but better. And she was an athlete. I’ve tried forgetting her name, but it still haunts me. So for now, let’s just call her Volleyball Girl.
I immediately took my shot: “Do you believe in love at first sight, or should I add you again?” Corny. But it worked. She messaged back that I was cute. We hit it off fast. And then she broke my heart by saying she didn’t go to Illinois State anymore. She had just transferred to the University of Indianapolis and hadn’t updated her profile yet. Of course. My luck.
