Grieving the living

My mother is one of my favorite humans on earth. Seeing her forget more of herself is heartbreaking.

I am sitting at my mothers bed in the assisted living facility in Haldensleben, Germany. She developed a bit of a fever and I returned immediately from my trip to Leipzig, my hometown . Things got difficult to travel back and fourth as the Deutsche Bahn is striking again, the German Farmers are striking as well. No trains will be running and the farmers will block the Autobahn. As much as I understand the need for strikes, as annoying they are when you are in the middle of taking care of your older mother.

I am visiting my mother twice a year for at least 6 weeks at a time coming from Los Angeles.

It is always best for me to fly into Leipzig. It is just easier that way. Less people, small airport. My flight plan looks like this; Los Angeles to Frankfurt , Frankfurt to Leipzig. My sister Gabi or one of my friends normally pick me up and drop me at my best friend Suse’s house ,where I am staying when in Leipzig. We know each other since our teenage years. My Weekends…
