My holiday in Zanzibar. 2013. Authors image.

My hidden dream was always to live in some hot country, where summer never ends. But I would never believe it can come true. I knew that I would be stuck in the middle of Europe and every year, I would endure a cold winter, which is really not my favourite.

Everything changed, when I went for my first holiday to Tanzania. There happened what had to happen. I met my husband there. I didn’t have any clue how we would be able to continue our relationship at a big distance, let alone live together, but I knew that I must follow my heart, although I did not see any future. We were so different. He was a Maasai, from a tribe which live in traditional huts in forests and look after their cattle.

It was not easy at all. Firstly, I was a coward even to tell my family. After a few months came the day. My mom was crying, and my sister stopped to talking to me. Just like in that story White Maasai.

Another day, my mom threw on the table in front of me some magazine with the unhappy story of the White Maasai.

My response was clear. Yes, I know, but it is not my story. She was convinced that I would get over it…
