I never quite enjoyed doing weights. Being an outdoor person, who loves to go on hiking and trekking expeditions every once in a while and travels more frequently than others, a cardio routine was palpably something that I enjoyed more. There was also rock climbing thrown in for a good measure.

My gym instructor became a friend over time, though, and it was through his ingenuity that weights were smartly incorporated into my daily exercise regimen.

He was quick to spot that I focused more on doing cardio, and was even quicker to warn me that I shouldn’t overdo it. As such, he laid down a simple timetable listing my routine on alternate days.

My maiden stint at the gym comprised a five-day workout, with me doing cardio and weights every alternate day, for the first four days. On Fridays, it was a combination of both the routines, albeit in moderation.

The weekend was meant to rest and recuperate. It is another matter altogether that every once in a while he would arrange a trekking expedition and invite me to join in, aware I didn’t always like the gym but was always excited when it came down to an outdoor activity.
