Why Christianity Needs a Feminist Movement

America’s most popular religion is pushing a backwards and repressive value system on women — and they’re suffering as a result

  • “More Evidence Men and Women Aren’t Interchangeable”

These are very real news headlines I found when I was skimming a popular Christian media outlet and preparing to write this piece. The headlines were accompanied by faith-and-family-friendly images and scathing captions, like “Americans aren’t having enough babies to replace themselves. In fact, a record one in five American women will never have children, and those who do will, on average, never exceed two.” These articles exemplify a backwards belief system that perpetuates gender roles and leaves women trapped by their own faith.

In our modern society, many women embrace their sexuality, work outside the home, and see themselves as equal to their partners. But some Christians perceive these societal values to be a war on the traditional values of purity, marriage, and motherhood.
